Maritime Law for Ship’s Officers (MLAW)

This course is intended for Seafarer’s in the Management level, senior Government officials serving in general maritime administration and maritime safety administration and for senior technical managers of shipping companies, of port authorities and of other commercial maritime enterprises, organizations and institutions. The course presents an outline of contemporary maritime law from the perspective of both public and private law, divided between administrative and commercial topics.

Objectives:

On completion of the course, trainees will have a good practical knowledge of the selected areas of maritime law and will understand the interaction between maritime law and administrative business activities as well as its impact on the maritime business community. The main objective is to provide a comprehensive introduction to global regulations and instruments and, in particular, to impart knowledge of new and revised international conventions and standards. They will have a comprehensive view of existing and pending international regulations as well as developments relating to this field and will have a proper understanding of, and be adequately acquainted with, the general development process within the scope of contemporary maritime law.

Entry Standards:

This course is open to senior government officials serving in general maritime administration and maritime safety administration and senior technical managers of shipping companies, of port authorities and of other commercial maritime enterprises such as ship’s officers. No formal qualifications are required.

Certificate of Training:

On successful completion of the course and active participation in group work, a document shall be issued certifying that the holder has completed a course of training in maritime law.
