Basic Ship Security Awareness Course (BSAC)

This course aims to provide knowledge and understanding of the requirements for Ship Security Plans as outlined in the US Maritime Security Bill and the IMO International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) for shipboard personnel.


Objectives:

Those who successfully complete this course should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understand the requirements for Ship Security Plans, as outlined in the US Maritime Security Bill and the IMO ISPS Code Chapter XI2, which include, but are not limited to: Participate in regular security inspections of the ship to ensure that appropriate security measures are maintained; Participate in the security aspects of the handling of cargo and ship’s stores with other shipboard personnel and with the relevant Port Facility Security Officers; to the Ship Security Officer any deficiencies and nonconformities identified during internal audits, periodic reviews, security inspections and verifications of compliance and implementing any corrective actions; all security incidents to the Ship Security Officer; and Ensure proper operation of all security

Entry Standards:

It is assumed that those attending this course will be serving seafarers or other shipboard personnel. However, no specific entry requirements are envisaged.


Certificate of Training:

On successful completion of the course and active participation in group work, a document shall be issued certifying that the holder has completed a course of training in Basic Security Awareness Course
