Radar Simulator Course

This course in intended for candidates seeking certification to act as officer in charge of a navigational watch on seagoing ships and is essentially practical and consists of a series of exercises performed in a radar simulator. Each exercise involves observation on the movement of ships as seen on radar, recognizing those presenting a threat of collision nad taking action to avoid collisions.

Objective:

The trainee who successfully completed this course will be able to make efficient and effective use of radar as a navigational aid in congested waters, recognize potential threats and make valid navigational and collision avoidance decisions based on sound radar observation and plotting in compliance with the international regulations for preventing collisions at sea (COLREG) 1972.

STCW Reference:

Regulation II/1, paragraph 2.5, Section AII/1, Regulation II/2, paragraph 2.2, Section II/2, Section AVIII Part 31, Table AII/1, Section 1.3 and Table AII/2, Section 2.6 of the STCW78 Convention, as amended in 1995.


Training Methodology:

Classroom instructions, Computer Based Instructions and Dynamic Real Time Simulation.


Certificate of Training:

Shall be given to each candidate who successfully completed the course and passed the assessment.


Entry Requirements:

This course in principally intended for candidates for certification as officers in charge of a navigational watch. Before entering this course, trainees should have completed a minimum period of one year at sea and preferable have gained some experience of bridge watchkeeping.
