CARGO HANDLING AND CARE OF CARGO


This course provides basic training in Cargo Handling and Cargo Care for Deck Officers of dry cargo ships of less than 200 gross tonnage. It covers goods in packaged form and dry cargoes in bulk,including dangerous substances, and related cargo handling gear equipment. Subject such as loading and discharge, stowage , segregation, ventilation and general safety precautions are covered.


Objectives:

Those successfully completing this course will thereby be enable to: Make safe and effective use of basic cargo handling gear and equipment. Properly prepare cargo spaces. Properly handle and stow general cargoes. Care for the cargo during transit. Properly Ventilate cargo spaces Properly handle stow and dry bulk cargoes. Take necessary measures when handling dangerous goods. Take all appropriate safety precautions. Comply with national and international regulatory requirement.

Entry Standards:

The course is open to those being trained to serve as masters and deck officers on ships of less than 200 grt engage on near – coastal voyages or those on international waters. No mathematical knowledge is required Certificate of Training: On successful completion of the course and active participation in group work, a document shall be issued certifying that the holder has completed a course of training in Cargo Handling and Care of Cargo.
