Automatic Identification System
AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM

The course is essentially a practical one and mainly consists of a series of exercises developed for ship officers for them to acquire useful knowledge and skills in the peration and application of the Automatic Identification System (AIS). This course shall cover particular requirements of the SOLAS convention as specified under the ISPS Code. Further, no national requirements have been imposed for the provision of this course, hence the coverage is mainly based from the ISPS Code and the Operational or User’s Manual of the equipment.


Training Methodology:

Classroom Instructions, computer based instructions and Dynamic real time simulation.


Teaching Aids:

Instructor’s Manual, Charts, tide tables, current charts, list of lights and sailing directions for the exercise areas. Equipment manuals and tables of corrections for simulated navigational aids.


Entry Standards:

There is no specific entry standard for this course but trainees wishing to enter this course should have a minimum of six months watchkeeping experience as officer in charge of a navigational watch. Certificate of Training: On successful completion of this course, a certificate shall be issued certifying that the bearer has successfully completed a simulator course in Automatic Identification System.
