Crew Resource Management (CRM)

(for New Buildings / Change Management / Take Over)

This course aims to provide useful basis for an onboard administration that can vary widely. It provides a minimum standard lower limit of administrative work which must be attended to by ship’s staff as a team and in this regard have been given special consideration.


Objectives:

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the managerial skills and human resources necessary to increase efficiency, enhance safety, minimize downtime periods, and increase alertness in all potential problems on board seagoing vessels

  • Describe ways and means in developing these managerial skills and human resources.

  • Recognize the importance of identifying potential problems in obtaining a clear and best decisive actions when it comes to maritime emergencies. Course Content: Simulator System Overview; NSCPi Training Concept: Review of basic knowledge in ship handling; ship administration (maintenance of Provisions and Victualing, concepts of shipboard Maintenance and Safety, on board opportunities and responsibilities for training, requirements for a healthy ship and crew, interracial barriers, human relations); shipboard administration practice; maritime frauds (piracy and armed robbery, phantom ships, consequences of frauds to seafarers); crew resource management (communications, human relations, team building, decisionmaking leadership and assertiveness, workload management); bridge/engine room simulator familiarization (collision avoidance in TSS, navigation simulation exercises).


Training Methodology:

Classroom Instructions, computer based instructions and Dynamic real time simulation Certificate of Training shall be given to each candidate who satisfactorily completed the course and passed the Simulator Exercise Evaluation System, a built in computerized objective assessment within the Ship Simulator and the criterion referenced behavioral assessment.
