It is never too ealy to give attention to our eye health. But with the lifestyles we have, we often abuse our eyes - how many of us stare for hours in front of the computer or TV screen? To avoid straining your eyes too much, here are some exercises (from www.beautytips.ayuveddiccure.com) to do every two hours or so.

  • With the two first fingers of the hands, put slight pressure on the center of the closed eyelids and rotate your eyes. This will soon soothe stressed eye muscle and relax them from stress.
  • With your eyes wide open rotate them slowly clockwise(up, right, down, left then center). Do this five times then repeat the exercise counter clockwise. This will increase eye muscle flexibility.
  • Move your eyes left to right (and vice versa) for five counts will help strenthen eye muscle.

We should wear sunglasses that have ultraviolet (UV) protection when we are out under the sun. UV rays cause long trerm damage to the eyes so this makes sunglasses not only fashionable, but very useful too! If your eyes suddenly feels pain and discomfort this is probably cause by foreign object - do not rub it! Instead place your eyes under lukewarm water to wash it out. If your eyes looks red or discolored, or if you have change or loss vision, go to your eye doctor for examination right away.

Lack of proper nutrition also affects the function of our eyes, that's why foods that are rich in Vitamin A, C+Zinc and E are essential to our daily diet. These vitamins ensure our eyes are healthy and help protect our eyes from vision imparing conditions such as cataracts where the eye becomes clouded and macsular degeneration. With regards to your diet, it is advisable to check wirh your doctor what food or supplement may be better for you.
